Many thanks again to Todd Heron and Pegasus,

First of all my problem is solved!!!
I will try to give a detailed review of what happened so other users can
use those series of posts if something similar happens to them.

My main problem was that whenever i was trying to login on my system as
a local user or remote desktop user a very strange behavior occurred
(see previous posts for detailed description).
On the other hand my server could accomplish fine the roles (print
server, file server, FTP server etc) assign to it except for WWW server,
as long as i didnt try to logon to it locally.

Pegasus suggested that i should run sfc.exe in order to verify the
integrity of my system files and because that was impossible to
accomplish locally he suggested me a freeware tool (psexec.exe,
www.sysinternals.com) so i could do it through network.
I was able (thanks to this great tool) to run a command prompt to the
remote computer and using "sfc.exe /scanonce" to schedule a scan at the
next reboot/logon.
After i logged on, the system continued to behave as before but Windows
File Protection did started and after asking me for my Win2k3 CD did a
complete check of system files.
During that time (about 5 minutes) explore crashed several times before
it finally became stable (propably because the file was corrupted and
sfc replaced it with the right one).
After that i was able to run Add/Remove Programms and i was almost ready
to unistall the recent hotfixes i applied 2 days ago, when I figured I
should go one step at a time in order to verify the source of the
problem (risking for another series of login failures...).
Before i reboot my system i checked task manager and noticed that
explorer and svchost processes (that had been problematic for the last
couple of days; see previous posts) were stable but winlogon.exe has
using a lot of CPU and a huge ammount of memory (16MB instead of
300-400K that normally uses).
After the reboot almost everything was back to normal and i was able to
login to my system without problems (YEAH).
The only problem now is that WWW service refuses to start with an error
2 code: The system cannot find the file specified.
I will try to solve this problem now and if i discover that this problem
is related with the login failures i will post an update.

Thanks again Pegasus and Todd for your valuable help...
