Can anybody tell me how to automate ASR Backup?
Information that can help getting there:
How to (scripted / command) create ASR.sif and ASRPNP.sif. There seems to be
no public documentation on any parameter of NTBackup for this or any other
procedure to create ASR.sif and ASRPNP.sif.
The creation of an ASR.sif seems straightforword though; just the "confdisk
/save ASR.sif" (RSK) with an [NTBACKUP.RECOVERYMEDIA] entry added at the end
of the file.
How to make an ASR floppy tape independent?
Why is the [NTBACKUP.RECOVERYMEDIA] entry in ASR.sif even needed? Currently
tape friendly name and GUID are put in this entry. If this wasn't the case
you could make an ASR floppy and use this for every backup of the server
until is hardware changed.
What are the NTBackup parameters needed for restore?
ASR restore seems to use the "NTBackup restore /1" parameter, added with the
paramaters given in the [NTBACKUP.RECOVERYMEDIA] section of ASR.sif.
If we would know which parameters can be given with "NTBackup recover" we
could possibly make ASR.sif tape independent by editing the ASR.sif entry
under [NTBACKUP.RECOVERYMEDIA].
Thanks in advance,
Richard
