Greetings all!
It has twice been suggested to me that this is a SBS 2003 issue, hence I'm
posting in this group.
I'm running MS SBS2003, with ISA Server, Symantec AntiV Corp Edition 9.0 +
Symantec AntiV for MS Exchange 4.5
The problem:
When the server is rebooted, 90% of the time, the 'Public Folder Store'
fails to mount, and the 'Mailbox Store' mounts fine. I can then go into
Exchange Sys Manager, and manually mount the store, and this works no
problem. Sometimes it is the 'Mailbox store' which doesn't mount, but can
also be later mounted manually. One of the stores will ALWAYS fail to
mount, while the other will mount fine.
The errors in the application are :
"Event ID 9519"
Error 0x80004005 starting database "First Storage Group\Mailbox Store
(ALPHA)" on the Microsoft Exchange Information Store.
Data : "Failed to add DS notification."
Just before that I get a:
"Event ID 2102"
Process MAD.EXE (PID=2592). All Domain Controller Servers in use are not
responding:
ourdomain.local
I am also getting:
"Event ID 8026"
LDAP Bind was unsuccessful on directory ALPHA.zeridium.local for
distinguished name ''. Directory returned error:[0x34] Unavailable.
I have checked the Exchange Domain Server rights with policytest.exe, and no
Group Policies are altering them.
I have run all the recommended DNS diagnostics, Active Directory
diagnostics, Domain Controller Diagnostics - no errors.
This seems to be a timing issue. As once the server has settled, I can
mount either of the stores manually with no errors!
Could it be that the ISA Firewall is blocking some LDAP/Exchange ports
during it's start-up, and then releasing them, while at the same time
Exchange is trying to mount its stores?
Or that at the same time Exchange is trying to mount the stores, something
else is preventing LDAP/Active Directory communications?
If so, is there some way I can give each service time to settle, before the
next one starts. Leaving the mounting of the exchange stores till the very
end?
I must again stress that these failures occur ONLY when exchange tries to
mount a store at startup, I have never had a problem/error mounting a store
manually from the System Manager.
All help is greatly appreciated!
Thanks
ILAN
P.S. Ben Winzenz [Exchange MVP] had this to contribute: "It sounds like
there is an issue where either AD isn't starting up quickly enough, or
something else relating to SBS. The problem is definitely that Exchange
can't connect to AD (ports 389 and 3268) when it is trying to mount the
stores, which explains why you can mount them later. "
