Not really -- more like a guide to a standardized system that works best.
<Sigh>
I have a Windows 2003 server (standard) in an enterprise that includes boxes
running Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows 2000 Professional, and Windows XP
Professional. The first box we put in would not allow us to set %username%
for home directory (using "net use X: \\server\share\%username%"). We tried
everything -- nothing would work. I finally gave up on it and put a
different box in its place. If the username has a space in it (aka "John
Doe") then the net command will not add the share. (We did not try putting
quotes around the full path though.)
As I read up on it, it occurred to me that in a mixed environment such as
the one we have to deal with (98/ME/2K/XP), scripting/batching on username
could prove to be a problem; not to mention finding a standardized system of
logins.
ERGO my request! :-)
