Hi all,
I'm not sure if I have done this correctly or not. When we rebuilt our
internal network we decided to use sub domains (at a DNS) level in order to
differentiate betweem our production, development, testing and staging
environments. This lead to the following fqdn conventions
<hostname>.dev.company.com
<hostname>.test.company.com
<hostname>.staging.company.com
Within our DNS (running on a Win2003 Srv) we have our main dns zone file and
the above mentioned sub domains appear within the parent dns record. This
all looks ok and it seems to work fine.
Now, this is where I am getting a little confused and my lack of knowledge
of AD comes into play. When I add a host to our AD domain that is in either
one of the above subdomains, when I do a properties of that server from the
AD Computers list, the DNS name associated with it is not correct, it loses
the sub domain portion, so instead of having <hostname>.dev.company.com
listed it has <hostname>.company.com. This will not resolve. Is this a
problem or a bug or have I done something wrong or missed a step? I have
noticed that in the AD Sites and Services CP you have the ability to create
subnets, but to be honest I do not know if this is a requirement or not or
if I should even be mucking about with it.
Regards and seasons greetings,
Craig
