Had the same problem with a toshiba. Mine was not related to SP2 directly.
There could be a couple of things.
1. Get a BIOS flash upgrade (if there are any)
2. Start in save mode. Run MSCONFIG. Disable services that you think is the
cause .There are services which reply on ACPI.
