Hi all,

Having a bit of an issue with some W2K3 users and Word Documents:

The issue is that some users are having Word Documents in their home folders
set to a file size of zero (hence destroying the file).

This issue has now been seen on 5 different networks, all of which have new
W2K3 servers.

* The issue only affects Word documents (Excel docs etc are fine).
* The issue only affects users on the W2K3 server. Users whose profile and
work are on a W2K server on the same network are not affected.
* The issue affects all station types (laptops and desktops).
* The modified, accessed and creation dates of the files are all set to the
same thing (is the file just recreated as zero, or is it destroyed?)
* The modified date does NOT match logon or logoff time.
* The issue ALWAYS occurs when the user is actually logged on.
* The issue does no coincide with Word running, or closing (in some
instances users have lost files during a session where they have never run
Word).
* The files are always saved to their home folder (a mapped drive back to
the server on drive N:)

Basically to me this looks like something running in the background while
the user is logged on. It cannot be a “non-system” process as our auditing
tool would pick the process up (Our auditing tool ignores system processes,
but catches everything else - therefore, if it is a process, it must be a
system process). The question is, does anyone know of ANYTHING that might
contribute to this issue, that only affects users on a W2K3 server while they
are logged on to a workstation? (Policies, processes, things that run on the
server while the user is logged on etc)
