You always want to (and can only) "defrag" your Active Directory Database
from within NTDSUTIL. As far as your Disk Defrag tool in Windows is
concerned, the NTDS.DIT is just a file and it's most likely taking up
contiguous space anyway so defrag wont fix this. There may be other files,
however if you have your SYSVOL on the same drive that can potentially can
become fragmented, particularly if you have logon scripts there. I would
make sure that if you do run defrag onthis volume that you do it during off
peak hours, as it can affect performance dramatically.
