I suppose you've not considered 'instant messaging' applications. At HP we used Jabber, which is very similar to MS's IM. But anyone can run a Jabber server. And we 'jabber'd with people all over the world.
Hope this helps.

Hi, Is there any application that allows users logged in remotely and/or at the console (in a terminal server session) to chat in a similar way to the unix 'talk' command on MS Windows Servers ? I am aware of the "Send Message...." button in the task manager, but was wondering whether there is any real-time chat/type program available. Cheers Patrick
