The drives weren't dead, they just fell out of the array for some reason. I
purchased the full version of restorer2000. The demo version is limited to
64k, so it's just a coinsidence that the chunk size is the same. I didn't
initialize the array or format it, I just activated the partition after
re-creating the array with the promise array management (bios level). I'm
currently in the process of recovering files ranging up to 2.5Gb and they
are not corrupt.
I'm thinking of contacting Promise and asking for a refund for the amount it
cost me to purchase the recovery software seeing as there was no reason for
the drives to be removed from the array and marked as free all by themselves
(and yes, I's 100% sure that no one went into the system and did that
themselves.)
