This is most likely a disk or partition being corrupted.
Most likely a boot virus, so I advise You run a full system scan.
Here is my story (Two Years ago)
Disk configuration:
Disk0\Partition0 - FAT 32, C: - Windows Me
Disk0\Partition1 - QNXFS, E: - QNX
Disk0\Partition2 - FAT 32, G: - MS-DOS 7
Disk0\Partition3 - NTFS, F: - Windows XP
Disk1\Partition0 - NTFS, D: - Windows XP
* each partition starts it's own operating system.
* there is no boot menu.
* I used fdisk.exe to change the boot partition.
On Windows Me (all patches installed) I had Norton Antivirus 2003 (latest
updates and definitions, auto protect on) and Norton Internet Security 2002
(latest updates). The entire system was checked, free from viruses.
* Perfect Protection!
No, It was not enough.
Windows Me crushed while I was playing a game.
On the next startup: Blue Screen - Windows Protection error.
I started the computer in MD-DOS.
Scan c: for viruses with navdx.exe
* it uses the virus definitions from NAV 2003 (latest)
c:\windows\system32\kernel32.dll
infected with Boot Aragorn.
And DOS crushed here.
format c:
* I had a backup of the partition
Try to boot Windows XP:
Both of my installations displayed errors similar to Yours.
Recovery Console was very unstable and may crush any moment.
chkdsk from the recovery console crushes the computer.
Finally the fixboot, reboot, checkdisk solved the problem.
>From that moment on I will never ever install this products on my system:
Windows Me
NAV *
NIS *
Thanks for time.
I hope my story was useful to You!
