Hello David,

Thank you for your reply.

I understand that when you boot Windows Server 2003 you received an error
message "At least one service or driver failed during system startup. Use
Event Viewer to examin the event log for details".

Based on my research, it seems this error message is related with the first
error log:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: Service Control Manager
Event Category: None
Event ID: 7000
Date: 4/15/2004
Time: 7:46:55 PM
User: N/A
Computer: HSRAL-SVR-04
Description:
The Network Load Balancing service failed to start due to the following
error:
The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it
has no enabled devices associated with it.

This issue may occur if the Network Load Balancing service is referenced as
a component in the startup group of a third-party service.

We can try the following steps to resolve this issue.

1. Start Registry Editor. To do so, click Start, click Run, type regedit,
and then click OK.
2. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\WLBS

3. Back up this registry subkey. To do so, follow these steps:
  a. On the File menu, click Export.
  b. Select a location to save the file to, type a descriptive name for the
registry subkey (for example, "WLBS"), and then click Save.

Important note If you want to install Network Load Balancing in the future,
remember to do one of the following before you bind Network Load Balancing
to any adapter:

   Restore the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\WLBS
registry subkey from the saved backup.
Change the value of the Group registry entry back to PNP_TDI.

4. In the right pane, right-click the Group registry entry, and then click
Modify.
5. By default, the Group string value is set to PNP_TDI. To prevent the
occurrence of event ID 7000, set the value of the Group entry to an empty
string. To do so, delete the PNP_TDI value in the Value data box, and then
click OK.
6. Quit Registry Editor.

| Hello Alex,
|
| Thank you for your reply and for all the valuble information.
|
| The error message at boot is the standard Service Control Manager
| "At least one service or driver failed during system startup. Use Event
| Viewer to examin the event log for details"
|
| In the system log I notice that the time synch's up properly in the next
| couple of events which is good, but the initial falure, although not fatal
| to the system is still an anoyance and I would like to prevent that if
| possible.
|
| In the system log I sent, you may also notice a critical event showing
that
| the Network Load Balancing service failed to start properly. This server
is
| not part of a cluster nor do I anticipate that it will be, however, it
does
| have mulitple NIC's. It was my intention to address this issue in another
| post but if you have a solution for this issue as well that would be
great.
|
| Thanks for your help,
| David
