Thanks for getting back to me, i really appreciate it. There are three total error messages that i get if i try and start the service and they are in different places. They are as follows:

1.The first one i get is a pop message as soon as i try and start the service and its exact wording is this:
"Could not start the Intersite Messaging service on the local computer
Error 58: The specified server cannot perform the requested action"

2.The second item is an ERROR and it comes throught the system log in the event viewer and is this:
"Event ID 7023; Service control manager
The Intersite messaging service has terminated with the following error:
The specified server cannot perform the requested action"

3.The third it4em is a WARNING and it comes through the application log of the event viewer and is this"
Event ID 1473; NTDS Inter-site
The description for event id 1472, Ntds intersite cannot be found. The local computer might not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
