Hi, I would like to know more information or eventually a possibile solution
about this event

I have a small server with Windows 2000 Server SP4 (PDC), Exchange 2000
Server SP3, Isa server SP1, Trend-Micro SME antivirus for Exchange, Norton
Antivirus 2001, GFI Fax Server for Exchange and a POP3 gateway software that
take down e-mails from different POP3 server (ISP) provider and relay each
one to each internal user of Exchange forest in Active directory.

The system works fine since 2 years without great problems. I have an old
UPS Lantech AI-Ups Plus of 2000VA (1400Watt) that is able to let on the
server and the firewall linux for about 21 minutes. The idea was to monitor
and control the UPS and shutdown the Server when the batteries arrive at 15%
of charge. I have found the right serial cable (mod. 1360) and the software
(Safeware). The UPS go out from prodaction 2 years ago and for that reason
the software works over Windows 95/98 and NT 4.0 (Safeware PRO and Lite). I
was able to found after long searching, Safeware PRO for NT 5.0 because the
software-house don't give more support for this product (in reality the
software house don't exist more!!). However the Safeware PRO works fine with
Windows NT 4, Windows 2000 Server, Windows 2000 Pro and Windows XP
Professional: it controls and monitors the UPS and makes the countdown in
regular way and shutdown the Server.

My problem is that with my Server the software doesn't work: the
installation goes fine, the software found the UPS over the right com port,
it feels when the UPS is working on line or on battery but after 30 seconds
(half minute) the software "freeze" and the Event Log reports me "Event ID
7016"

"Event ID: 7016
 Source: Service Control Manager
 Type: Error
 Category: None
Description: The Safeware Pro service has reported an invalid current state
0"

The software still works (I can close it normaly with "File->Exit", or look
the Log list, etc....) but the countdown is stopped and even if I give
eletricity to UPS, the software doesn't recognize more the difference. So i
have to manually close and reopen.

I have notice that in reality Safeware has 2 Task Servicies (safeware_nt.exe
that is the program and gupscomm.exe that controls the comunication port and
the current state of the inverter). In other PC the gupscomm.exe usage is
always circa 00% or 1-2%, in my Server, after 30 seconds, the service
arrives at 15-17% and after it goes down generating the Event ID 7016.

I have looking for more information about, but I have not found enough.

 http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;257509 (that seems
explain something better ..... but I don't think to have SMS 2.0 installed)

Could someone please give me more information or help me to uinderstand how
I could disable that Win32 service calls the Safeware Service or something
like?

SORRY SORRY SORRY for my really bad english

Sincerely

Best regards

Patrick
