Thank you. I do see the printers listed under the Domain Controllers
OU, but the client still has the error that the operation couldn't be
completed.

Hello AnnetteW,

In AD UC choose "View" and check "Users, contacts, groups, and
computers as containers". Then go to the OU where the server is
located, Domain controllers OU, and now should see the printers under
the server listed.

I've added the printers in the directory (by checking the box on the
share tab). But when I search for one on a client, none pop up.

Thank you,

Annette

Hello AnnetteW,

Are the printers shared in AD? You can see it on the printer
properties. On the client go to the printer window and start the
'Add printer' wizard, choose network printer and search Active
directory, now the printers should appear and you can choose it and
add it to the workstation.

Thank you! I removed the secondary external DNS and I was able to
add the client to the domain. I've setup shared printers on the
server, but am unable to add them to the client (by right-clicking
printer--> Connect, from Start/Run \\servername). The client says
"operation could nto be completed". Printers can be added via IP
address through the wizard though. Any thoughts?

Regards,

Annette

Hello AnnetteW,

Make sure that only domain DNS servers are used, no external like
your ISP's. Are any firewall used? Please post an unedited
ipconfig /all from the client and the DC.

I just created a new domain, on a new DC running Server 2008.
When attempting to add a computer, I receive the below message.
The computer name does appear in the Computers OU in AD though.

Note: This information is intended for a network administrator.
If
you are
not your network's administrator, notify the administrator that
you
received
this information, which has been recorded in the file
C:\WINDOWS\debug\dcdiag.txt.
The following error occurred when DNS was queried for the
service
location
(SRV) resource record used to locate a domain controller for
domain
rtc.o-s.edu:
The error was: "DNS name does not exist."
(error code 0x0000232B RCODE_NAME_ERROR)
The query was for the SRV record for
_ldap._tcp.dc._msdcs.rtc.o-s.edu
Common causes of this error include the following:
- The DNS SRV record is not registered in DNS.
- One or more of the following zones do not include delegation
to
its
child
zone:
rtc.o-s.edu
o-s.edu
edu
. (the root zone)
nslookup doesn't resolve DC's servername.
In DNS, Under forward lookup zones, I have _msdcs.rtc.o-s.edu &
rtc.o-s.edu
I created a reverse lookup zones named xx.xxx.xxx.in-addr.arpa.
Do
I
need
to manually create a pointer for the DC?
Passed all in dcdiag.
Where should I be troubleshooting?
Thank you,
Annette
