Hello all,
I have a Windows 2003 Server running a mail server (MDaemon) and DNS
services. Everything seems to work OK, except when I try to send email to
Google or Yahoo!, I get this message from my email server:
Mon 2008-10-20 01:40:59: Resolving A record for [c.mx.mail.yahoo.com] (DNS
Server: 216.75.6.11)...
Mon 2008-10-20 01:40:59: * Name server reports domain name unknown
Same for GMail....
Now, DNS services on same server are configured on IP's 216.75.6.11 and
216.75.6.12
Why is DNS on the machine?
If it is a DC then it should have DNS, but it should not be running as a
mail server, at least it is not best practice anyway.
If it is not a DC then it shouldn't need DNS.
In a proper situation the DC would run DNS and would use the ISP's DNS as a
Forwarder in the Forwarders List within the DNS Service Config.
MDaemon would then be run from a different machine and would use only the
DC/AD/DNS as the DNS Server.
