This may be a little off-topic, but I'm trying to take a close look
at my AD/DNS/WINS setup to figure out why I can't seem to browse
Network Neighborhood over an SSL vpn.
I've seen several KB articles with references to the utility
nbstat.exe, but I can't seem to actual find that utility.
It's not a part of the 2003 Resouce Kit, and if some other utility
has assumed it's functions, I can find any mention of it.
Any assistance will be apreciated, as I'm just spinning my wheels
here. Even google is not help.
It's nbtstat (you are missing a 't'). It's build in. It short for "NetBIOS
over TCP/IP Statistics."
Assuming you mean SSL VPN such as what Sonic Wall provides over a browser to
initiate the connection, it's still a pretty standard VPN. When you look at
the connected client's ipconfig, does it provide the WINS server address?
Are rules in place on the VPN appliance to block NetBIOS traffic? Is there a
firewall enabled on the client side?
Basically, browsing should just work across any VPN configured with WINS,
unless something is blocking the traffic.
