Re: 2 DNS names for same server during transition

actually, i can add the printers via the new name if i use the FQDN, sorry.
the printers do work, but their Status shows as "Access denied, unable to
connect". is that just because i'm connected via the new name?

Hey Kevin. This server also acts as my print server, but it appears my
printers only can be added on my clients by the
\\serverA.olddomain.com\PrinterName name and not the new server name. Any
ideas how to get that fixed?

ok, i have serverA in my old domain, which houses home directories,
and some other files shares. I wanted to create an additional DNS
record for this server, with a new name that the server will soon be
changing to, so i can start to change everyone's home directories to
point to the new server name now instead of in a flurry after i
actually change the server. so i have DNS entries in different
domains for serverA.olddomain.com and fileserver.newdomain.com. i
can still connect to \\serverA.olddomain.com\fileshare, but when i go
to connect to \\fileserver.newdomain.com\fileshare, i get a message
saying "you are not connected because a duplicate name exists on the
network". I can ping fileserver.newdomain.com fine, how can i get it
so people can connect to either DNS name?

Here's the fix:
281308 - Connecting to SMB share on a Windows 2000-based computer or a
Windows Server 2003-based computer may not work with an alias name:
