Well then when does it release it? Because what happens when I have DNS
entry saying, JIM = 192.169.1.3 and then I disconnect. Now say Mary
connects to the network and she has static setup and her static is .3
also. \
First, you are not supposed to let that happen. Static entries must
NEVER be duplicated by DHCP Servers or static entries on other
computers.
Addresses must be unique.
If you let DCHP server do the dynamic address registration in
DNS then it can remove them as well.
Now DNS is going to have Mary and Jim as 192.168.1.3.
If you query it you will (probably) get back a random answer.
And I have been having this happen in my DNS. The same IP is being
referenced to 2 different users. And we only use DHCP, which makes it
even
more confusing because DHCP usually tries to give the client the same IP
everytime they connect.
Let the DHCP server do the registration and de-registration.
BTW: Why do you care so much about reverse records?

I always thought that when a client is shutdown, it sends a message to
the
DNS, or to the DHCP which acts on behalf of the client, to remove its
entries
from the DNS.
Why? It still owns the address until it expires or releases it.
But I've just connected a laptop and checked the DNS and the new
records
(one for the wired connect and one for the wireless) were created. But
then
I shutdown the laptop an its been 10 minutes now and the records are
still
there.
