We already own <companyname>.com, but it is handled by GoDaddy. When

are some other sub-domains that I need to continue to allow
GoDaddy.com to
handle (mail.<companyname>.com - which actually redirects back to our
internal firewall and servers, barracuda.<companyname>.com,
extranet.<companyname>.com, etc.). The only thing I want our
internal DNS
server to do is to redirect requests for intranet.<companyname>.com
to an
internal server running IIS and let GoDaddy handle everything else
related to
<companyname>.com - can this be done?

Yes, it can. You need to create zones for the fully-qualified name,
intranet.companyname.com, in that zone create one host record, leave the
name field blank and give it the IP you need it to resolve to. This way,
your DNS is only authoritative for intranet.companyname.com, the rest of
companyname.com is resolved by the forwarder or recursed from the Root
Servers.
