RE: Local Network DNS Changes - Help Requested

We already own <companyname>.com, but it is handled by GoDaddy. When a user
enters www.<companyname>.com, I want GoDaddy to handle the request since it
will resolve to a web site also hosted by GoDaddy. On the same token, there
are some other sub-domains that I need to continue to allow GoDaddy.com to
handle (mail.<companyname>.com - which actually redirects back to our
internal firewall and servers, barracuda.<companyname>.com,
extranet.<companyname>.com, etc.). The only thing I want our internal DNS
server to do is to redirect requests for intranet.<companyname>.com to an
internal server running IIS and let GoDaddy handle everything else related to
<companyname>.com - can this be done?
Thanks!

Hi,.
The easiest thing to do is add a forward lookup zone for the domain
<companyname>.com. In the DNS MMC Snap-in, Right Click 'Forward Lookup
Zones', and click 'New Zone'. Set it up as a new Primary Zone. When the
Zone is setup, right click on the zone, and click 'New Host (A)...'. Enter
'Intranet' and the FQDN should then read 'intranet.<companyname>.com'.
One very important thing though... do you own <companyname>.com? If so, do
you already do the name resolution for the domain? You may experience
problems with the client PCs accessing anything internet based that uses the
<companyname>.com domain name.
Hope this is of some help.

Hi,
We currently have a domain set up with Active Directory in our company, and
it is set up using <companyname>.local rather than something like
<companyname>.com. I would like to be able to set it up via DNS so that when
users on the local network type in intranet.<companyname>.com, it will take
them to a particular computer running IIS on the local network. I'm assuming
there is an easy way of doing this via Administrative Tools -> DNS on the
server that controls DNS for our domain, but am not quite sure how to do it.
Could someone assist, or point me to some sort of tutorial? Thanks.
