Re: Yet another multisite VPN DNS question!

This is starting to really confuse me.....
This morning when I wrote my last reply, I had deleted the entry for
Station04 in DNS and then from the workstation ran ipconfig /registerdns.
That's when I got the EventID and error I pasted.
Now when I do it, it works. Also, I compared DNS entries with an ipscan of
my network, everything is matching up.

But I haven't changed anything since yesterday!! hehe.. go figure

Well, in response to the ipconfig /all, it basically looks like this:

Dhcp Enabled - Yes
Autoconfiguration Enabled - Yes
IP Address - whatever is currently assigned via the Cisco DHCP server
Subnet Mask - 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway - IP address of my Cisco router
DHCP Server - IP address of my Cisco router
DNS Servers - IP address of DC/Exchange Server as Primary; IP address of PDC
as Secondary

Really nothing out of the ordinary there. 172.1.1.1 exists absolutely
nowhere on my network. There is only the Cisco router and the Win2k3 Server
that have DHCP capabilities on this subnet, and the Win2k3 service is
disabled. Everything else here is WinXP Pro SP2 and my Vista Laptop.

What I noticed about that 172.1.1.1 deal when I Googled for some info, is
that just about everyone else who gets EventID 11163 has the same number
appear. It takes the first section of their subnet (be it 192, 10, or in my
case 172), then follows with 1.1.1. Very odd, in my opinion.

So basically, I'm not sure if my DNS registration issues are resolved, or if
they're going to reoccur as of yet. I guess I'll keep tabs on it and see if
everything is staying in line or not.

Thanks for your help with everything so far, I really appreciate you taking
your time to look at this with me!

Jason,
Can you find out what 172.1.1.1 is? It looks like a gateway device. Maybe
you have another DHCP server operating on the network. Can you do an
ipconfig /all on a workstation that is getting an error?
