BillTheAdmin <BillTheAdmin@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> typed:
I have a parent-child Active Directory domain infrastructure. DNS
replication for the child domain is incorrectly configured. I am
looking for a way to correct the problem.
The AD parent domain is parent_domain. The AD child domain is
child_domain. DNS is child_domain.parent_domain.com. Every DNS
server is a Domain Controller and every Domain Controller is a DNS
server. All DNS zones are of type Active Directory Integrated.
Environment:
The DNS zone named child_domain.parent_domain.com was created on the
parent_domain DCs with the replication scheme "All DNS servers in the
AD forest". The DNS zone named child_domain.parent_domain.com was
created on the child_domain DCs with the replication scheme "All DCs
servers in the AD domain". When I add/edit DNS entries on the
child_domain DCs, the changes do not replicate to the parent_domain
DCs (reason is obvious).
Problem:
I want to change the DNS Replication scheme on the child_domain DCs
to "All DNS server in the AD forest". Unfortunately, I get the lame
error "name limit for the local nic exceeded". I have determined the
problem is that the child_domain.parent_domain.com entry already
exists in the ForestDnsZones AD partition. The entry exists in the
DomainDnsZones AD partition on the child_domain DCs.
If I delete the DNS zone named child_domain.parent_domain.com fromt
the parent_domain DCs, will the delete action also delete the DNS
zone named child_domain.parent_domain.com from the child_domain DCs?
In the parent zone, is there a sub domain named with the child name?
I'm not referring to a delegation with the child name, a delegation would
only contain NS records. If there is a sub domain in the zone, with all the
child records, you can delete it, then you have to create a delegation for
the name with necessary NS record. After you create the delegation, and it
replicates, then you should be able to change the replication scope.
