Thanks for posting this information. I am willing to put my money on the
ADSL router. Look in it's config and see if you can configure it to be
always "on" and not when something asks for a connection. Also in DNS server
properties, Interface tab, force it to only use 192.168.0.100. Under the
Forwarders tab, configure a forwarder for 'All other domains" to use your
ISP's DNS. These actions force DNS to only use the connection.
Note: You DEFINATELY want to remove the router's IP from DNS. Otherwise it
can cause numerous AD issues that will affect many things including
Exchange.
More info:
The following article is not necessarily the cause because it refers to
binding to the RRAS IP of the PPPoE connection if directly connected and
using PPPoE to share the connect. I believe what *may* be going on is if the
router is asleep and DNS attempts to send a query, it may fail and *might*
cause this. I've seen issues, including MTU problems, with ADSL services.
ADSL is not necessarily the choice for a business connection, but I can
understand and well respect meeting budgets and/or if the area you are
located in may be limited to services offered .
175436 - microsoft nt4 dns stops forwarding queries after ppp link goes down
{maybe applies to w2k too]:

Then again, I can be totally wrong. ;-)
