it stopped resolving names, the service continues to run and would

I think some of the questions that Kevin and Meinolf asked will benefit all
of us to help assist you in a resolution.

I will repost some of the questions as well as a couple of others. Your
responses will help.

Can you describe the DNS server's setup please? Such as:
Is it a DC?
A member server?
Is it setup as a router with more than one NIC?
What type of internet service? ADSL with a PPPoE connection or is it SDSL,
T1, cable, etc?
Is/are forwarders configured?

Also to better assist along with the respones to the above questions, please
post:

An *unedited* "ipconfig/all."
The results of a "net start"

Usually DNS just does not stop resolving. Howebver when it does can be
caused by a combination of factors, including believe it or not, what type
of line and router you have, if DNS is listening on the interface the router
is on, and many others. Your responses will better help give us a start
toward a diagnosis and recommendations.

Thank you,
