I am running Microsoft DNS on my outside interface. We have
www.irvignisd.net working just fine. We recently fixed Registry.com
so we can control irvingisd.COM and irvingisd.ORG in house.
1. How do I get www.irvingisd.COM/ORG to point to our webpage at
www.irvingisd.net?
Create A records named www that give the IP address of the www.irvingisd.net
website. If it is using host headers, you will need to add the host headers
to the website too. Alternately, you can add CNAME records naemd www, that
give www.irvingisd.net as the FQDN, but you still will have to add host
headers if the site uses them.
2. How do I get irvingisd.net (without the www) to point to our
webpage?
Add a new host, leave the name field blank, and give it the IP of the
website.
NOTE-If this is an Active Directory domain and irvingisd.net is your AD
domain name, you cannot access the website by the domain name and do not add
a record for the website. There is one workaraound that allows you to use
the domain name only, but it requires you to create a website on all DCs
that redirects to http://www.irvinisd.net Active Directory domains are
required to resolve to IP addresses of Domain Controllers only, to allow
access to the DFS shares located on the DCs by domain name, ex.
\\irvingisd.net\SYSVOL & \\irvingisd.net\NETLOGON
