I have tried to add it to my dns server as an A record, but I still
can not resolve it. Obviously it should be getting it from the root
servers, just have no clue why it is not. Basically I can not see
any pictures on amazon, which is stored on ecx.images-amazon.com.
Any ideas would be awesome. When I add a A record it adds a second
(com) folder if that makes any difference. I tried just adding
images-amazon.com, and I could ping that at least, but no images on
amazon.
ecx.images-amazon.com. is a CNAME that points to another CNAME, and it may
not be possible to add an A record and get consistent results because
sometimes the A records are dynamic and the IP addresses can change at any
time.

How are you adding the A record?
The way you would add a record for this name is to create a zone named
ecx.images-amazon.com, and create a CNAME, leave the name field blank, and
enter ecx.images-amazon.com.edgesuite.net. into the FQDN field.
I would not create the second CNAME because it would be very easy for that
record to change, in fact it would be just as easy for any of these to
change, but that's why Amazon uses CNAMES, they have subbed out the web
service.
