I have some servers that have static ip addresses assigned to them.
Their dns is configured to register in dns. As a result their A
records in dns have the "Delete this record when it becomes stale" box
selected. I do not want these to be deleted ever as two of them are
my two DCs.
Just keep them up most of the time. They will renew themselves
periodically.
Do I:
Uncheck the box on the A record ind DNS that says "Delete this record
when it becomes stale" and uncheck the box in the servers DNS
This only matters IF you enable Scavening.
It is only a PROBLEM if you enable Scavenging AND allow the WAN
to be down or DCs to be offline for longer than the Scavening settings
on the zone (NoRefreshInterval + RefreshInterval).
configuration that says "Register this connection's address in DNS.
I would not, and I do not.
DCs need to dynamically register many settings anyway, so leave them alone
and do NOT set your "Scavenging" (NoRefreshInterval + RefreshInterval)
less than the maximum time you expect your DCs to be down or the WAN
them between to be out.
OR
Delete the A record in DNS and create it manually and uncheck the box
in the servers DNS configuration that says "Register this connection's
address in DNS.
Just leaving it alone works for most people.
