Re: What is FQDN ?

No, I knew I wasn't doing right, I did posted that if you find any problem
the following lines I posted earlier:

"I do have Forward Lookup Zone and it is CORP.TESTCOMPANY.COM"

The forward lookup Zone properties box, "CORP.TESTCOMPANY.COM" at "NAME
SERVER" Tab it shows "DC1DNSAD" as a FQDN.
and in the IP ADDRESS Column it says unknown. What went wrong ?"

Now, I knew fully qualified domain must have to have "Computer Name in it" +
Internal Domain Name which in my case was "CORP.TESTCOMPANY.COM" but The
Active Directory setup Wizard didn't add my computer name which is "DC1DNSAD".
I checked "SYSTEM PROPERTIES , Computer Name Tab and It display my
Computer name/(Host Name) only DC1DNSAD and next line which is Domain
It says "CORP.TESTCOMPANY.COM" and there is no Dot/Period at the end of it.

Windows IP configuration

Host Name......................................... : DC1DNSAD
Primare Dns Suffix ............................. :
Node Type ........................................ : Unknown
IP Routing Enable .............................. : No
WINS Proxy Enable ............................ : No

Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection 3:

Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
Description.............................. : Intel(R) PRO/100 + Server
Adapter (PILA8470B)
Physical Address ..................... : 00-02-B3-5E-C6-CA
DHCP Enable............................ : No
IP Address............................... : 192.168.0.200
Subnet Mask............................ : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway....................... : 192.168.0.1
DNS Server ............................. : 127.0.0.1

I think at one Point AD Setup Wizard ask you Question What should be NETBIOS
NAME.
Here if you put NetBios Name a Name of your Computer that you have already
have used for computer it Add's 0 in it. For Example , My Host name is
DC1DNSAD so answering AD Wizard Question for NETBIOS name I put use the same
name but it gave me ERROR and says this Name is already in use and It added
DC1DNSAD0. So What I did move back and insted of giving the same Netbios name
I used "CORP" as a Netbios Name. "CORP" as u know is a Subdomain of my
External domain TESTCOMPANY.COM.

When Wizard ask me what should be my domain name I used CORP.TESTCOMPAY.COM
and on the NETBIOS Domain Name BOX insted of computer name I used CORP.

Please tell me what am i doing wrong ?

Do I need to repost this Question? Do you need more informatiom? Can
you please tell me ..I want to really understand How DNS work? and
How AD integrate in it.

I need to clear my concepts, Reading is not helping me much now, so I
need QA. Please help me learn and correctly setup my DNS and AD.
Whatever your suggestions, I will follow. I have 2 extra machines and
one laptop other then the machine I have tried to installed the
Windows 2003 server to make a First domain controller in my network.
I wanted this machine to be my Internal DNS server, First Domain
controller in a forest. This machine has only One(NIC) card. I din't
wanted to make this machine a ROUTER as I'm using Netgear Router that
connect all my other machines and Domain controller.

Please help here..I am just learning...

It sounds like you are doing ok so far. The machine's FQDN (Fully Qualified
Domain Name) is DC1DNSAD.CORP.TESTCOMPANY.COM. Is that what you see? Then
it's ok. Make sure you are ONLY using the internal DNS's actual IP address
as the DNS address in it's IP properties, as well as all clients. Configure
a forwarder for more efficient external resolution. This article shows how:

Tell you what, post an unedited ipconfig /all of the DC to get a better
"picture" of the DC's configuration.
