I stated incorrectly that it would not connect with a static IP address, it
does connect.
Then you have proven basic network NIC, cable (at least
intermittent), and switch/hub functionality.
This sounds like it MIGHT be one of those cases where
the switch/hub is NOT dealing well with the DHCP
client broadcasts.
What is the device that connects up you clients and other
machines on the net?
Also, are there ANY other client machines with DHCP
working on the SAME subnet/VLAN? If not, you may
need "Bootp Forwarding", "IP Helper address",
"DHCP relay agent", or the equivalent of one of these
configured. (Depends on router/hub/switch type and
capabilities for method and what it is called.)
You can also ENABLE a NetMon*** on the server and
WATCH for the DHCP broadcasts as you boot or
type "IPconfig /renew" on the DHCP client.
*** Be certain you have the AUTHORITY to enable such
a device -- enabling these on some corporate networks is
cause for dismissal of employment.******************

We do have a DHCP server, and it is not out of addresses. Others
machines are configured to get an address from the server. I have also
given the system a static IP address and it still will not connect.
