Thanks everyone, but do have a couple questions..
Just to clarify , all my clients including my servers all point to one
centralized WINS server and my environment consist of a over 50 or so
subnets in various locations . Browsing was fine, I was able to see
all servers from all subnets up until recent where we added a new subnet
and move 8 servers from subnet A to subnet B . Now I am having a
problems I unable to see new servers on subnetB . i.e If I lunch my
network places on any of the servers in this new subnetB I can only see
the 8 servers in subnetB but if I were to do the same on any machine in
subnetA or any other subnet EXCEPT the new subnetB I can see all
computers in all other subnets except computers on the new subnetB..
That strongly implies that the Master Browser of SubnetB
is either not running NetBIOS or is not a WINS client so
recheck ALL computers in subnet B. Check firewalls, both
local (XP/Basic, ZoneAlarm) and intermediate (routers)
to make sure you aren't blocking NetBIOS/WINS ports.
In my conclusion I think on subnetB the browser master is having
problems communicating or perhaps unable to update its master browser
list on the domain master browser which resides in subnetA.
Right.
Is there any ports etc need be allowed on the router for browsing to
work. I ran a trace to the domain master browser and the WINS server
using MS portquery via UDP port 138 from the subnetB master browser and
it appears that port 138 is not being blocked..
Yes.
Try this article and don't skip over the "NT" specific stuff
since that is where NetBIOS and WINS are covered.
I am puzzled why this is not working..
Any suggestions would certainly be appreciated.

Hi Darren,
Thanks for posting.
Based on my knowledge, this behavior is expected. Because the computer
listed is maintained by a master browser use browser service. The
browser
service maintains a list of the domain name or workgroup name the
computer
is in, and the protocol being used for each computer on the network
segment
being served by the computer running the browser service. On each
network
segment, a master browser is elected from the group of computers
located on
the segment that are running the browser service.
Check the following article for detailed information.
188001 Description of the Microsoft Computer Browser Service

Hope this helps.

Vincent Xu

I am having an issue where I can not use the windows browser to find
PC's
candifferent subnets. I can ping a computer across subnets by name or IP,
I
PCget to them
in windows if I type \\computername, but when I browse the network
from a
onon subnet A I can ONLY see computers in subnet A but not subnet B and
the
same follows if I browse from a PC on subnet B I can ONLY see
computers
thissubnet B.
My WINS server is on subnet A and all servers in both subnet points to
WINS server . Also I see all the servernames in both subnets have
registered their records in WINS [00h] and [20h]. My DNS server is on
subnet A and all servers point to this DNS. My client are running
Win2000
and my domain is Win2003 with all Win2003 servers.
Any help would certainly be appreciated.
