Have a problem trying to get SURBL spam checking working on our colocated
mail server.
If we "ping surbl.org" then we get the response "pinging
surbl.org.ourdomain.com [ourip] ...." and then the server responds to
itself with 4 successful pings.
However when pining surbl.org from any other machine,we get the correct
response "ping request could not find host surbl.org".
I suspect this is some sort of DNS issue, but does anyone know what
exactly or how I can sort it?
Probably since the name is not being resolved.
The way you determine this is the also ping with the
IP address -- if that works and pinging by name fails
then you have proven that there is a name resolution
problem and not an IP/routing problem.
Is the surbl.org registered (under that name) with DNS?
Can the clients find that DNS server (either they use it
directly or they use a DNS server which can recurse to
it....etc.)
