DNS fault?

Have a problem trying to get SURBL spam checking working on our colocated
mail server.
If we "ping surbl.org" then we get the response "pinging
surbl.org.ourdomain.com [ourip] ...." and then the server responds to itself
with 4 successful pings.
However when pining surbl.org from any other machine,we get the correct
response "ping request could not find host surbl.org".
I suspect this is some sort of DNS issue, but does anyone know what exactly
or how I can sort it?
