Problems with www prefix on own nameserver?

Hi,
I've just started using my own Win 2k3 DNS server as the authoritive
server for my domain, kingj.net . It resolves fine
(http://www.dnsstuff.com/tools/traversal.ch?domain=kingj.net&type=A)
but if I try to view the website outside of my network and use the
prefix www (e.g http://www.kingj.net through a proxy), I just get a
non-descriptive error thrown back at me. I have to use it without the
www prefix, why is this?
A little bit about my setup:
1and1 are the providers of my domain, they have the option of allowing
me to point it to my own nameservers and use theirs as secondary (since
I only have one nameserver).
I have a static IP (81.149.184.29) which I have pointed to my
nameserver using the address kjhost.hopto.org (using no-ip's service,
pointing to my static) since I cant add a subdomain such as
ns1.kingj.net to 1and1's interface since I have recently modified my
package (last 30 days)
I'm quite happy to provide more information if it is needed, it would
be greatly appreciated if anyone could help me out.
