I am researching Windows 2003 DNS and will be replacing a BIND server.
I was asked if Windows 2003 DNS support "Single Answer Zone Transfers".
Does anyone know?

No, no one knows. <grin>

That phrase does not appear even in Google, both web sites and
Google news groups (except for your post and this thread.)

My first guess would be that the questioner meant "incremental
transfers" -- i.e., sending only CHANGES rather than the full
zone.

If so, the answer is YES. Windows DNS supports incremental
transfers both with AD (which is even more efficient) and with
traditional Primary-Secondary transfers, even when working with
UNIX (e.g., BIND) server.

I will be using an AD integrated zone and will have zone transfer
partners running all different version of DNS.

AD Integrated Zones are replicated through AD replication so
no actual 'zone transfer' (per se) takes place unless you also have
additional secondaries pulling the zone.

They still support incremental transfers to such secondaries.

But for normal AD replication only changes are sent, and the data
is compressed when traversing your WANs (assuming proper
setup of your Sites so that intersite replication is used over the WANs.)

If I guessed wrong, then just find out what was meant by
"Single Answer Zone Transfers" and ask again; we'll try to help.
