The looping traceroute below indicates that 172.30.40.121 and 172.30.40.122
both have default routes pointing to each other. The router at
172.30.40.121 is expected to have a route for 202.130.5.8, but it doesn't.
In the traceroute below, 202.99.57.218 should actually not send anything to
172.30.50.43 and display it as a public route because this is part of the
IANA reserved subnet 172.16.0.0 - 172.31.255.255.
When I try a traceroute to 202.130.5.8, it stops at 202.99.57.218. Since
the first message in this thread indicated that he can surf the net fine,
routing must be working OK and the timeouts past 202.99.57.218 are probably
just due to ICMP being blocked.
DSL providers are all different, but when I had DSL my provider did give me
a public IP address for one machine, in addition to the public address of my
DSL router.
I don't see any A records for either www.kammpus2.ac.id or
www.kampus2.ac.id, so this may explain why the hostname doesn't respond to
ping. ns.net.id seems to be authoritative for ac.id, but doesn't have any A
records for the domain that I can find. Perhaps the domain is pending. As
for 202.130.5.10 not responding, this could be a problem if the ping is
originating from 202.130.5.10. He/she might want to visit a site like
http://whatismyipaddress.com/ and verify that they are indeed coming from
202.130.5.10, and not hidden behind another IP address. If the site reports
that you are coming from 202.130.5.10, then it's likely that you can set
this up as a public web server.

Hi...
I just have a new domain ... like this :
exam :
domain : kampus2.ac.id
IP Public : 202.130.5.10
DNS Server : ns1.telkom.net.id
ns3.telkom.net.id
my router gateway : 202.130.5.8
I use ADSL Connection...
I can surfing...to anywhere...there's no problem ...
my question :
I can ping my router ip ( 202.130.5.8 ) from internet....
but when i ping my ip public ( 202.130.5.10 ) or
http://www.kammpus2.ac.id ,
it doesn't work...
is it possible to build web server on ADSL Connection ?
Not if ping fails UNLESS the ping failure is merely a firewall
FILTER issue.
Technically, I should say "not if you cannot route"; pinging is
used to prove that routing is working.
Where did you get that address "202.130.5.10"?
If assigned by the ISP it would need to be given to THE ROUTER
(a NAT or network address translating router that is) since it MUST
be on the same subnet as 202.130.5.8.)
OR you would need to physically move the machine onto the net
where the Router uses 202.130.5.8.
Herb,
It actually depends on his DSL connection, the provider, and the Hardware.
Some DSL Router/modems for example a Netopia 3356N when configured as a
PPPoE bridge, would have the public IP of the Modem/Router and as the
gateway for the public addresses assigned to clients behind it.
That said, when I ping his router address it returns an IP from a
different
router address with the TTL expired in transit. If I tracert the IP it get
redirected to a different IP that starts a routing loop.
