No, you can easily host mail for your users, one of two ways.
One way is for you to leave the ISP mail server as the public host, then
use
the POP3 connector in SBS to collect the mail from the ISP to deliver it
to
the correct mailboxes. Then make the ISP's mail server the Smart host for
Exchange, and I highly recommend using an SMTP connector in Exchange to
relay the mail from Exchange to the ISP SMTP server with all mail going
through the connector. This will prevent a possible delay in mail
delivery.
You can do this without changing a thing in your Public zone as far as MX
records are concerned.
The other way is to make Exchange your public SMTP server with the Public
MX
record naming Exchange as the SMTP server. This increases the security
risk
because you would have to give full public access to the SMTP server
because
it would be published in the MX record.

In either case, if you wish to allow OWA access to your users, you will
need
an A record internally that gives the local OWA website IP, and an A
record
in the public zone, preferably with the same name giving the public IP
that
has port 80 and/or port 443 forwarded to the OWA website. For RPC over
HTTPS
you need only port 443 and a SSL cert for Exchange.
So that you can access exchange internally and publicly by the same name,
create a zone with the Full DNS name that is used for the public name.
E.G.
Create a forward lookup zone named owa.example.com, in that zone create
one
new host, leave the name field blank, give it the internal IP of the
Exchange server.
