Re: Internal IP addresses showing up with external IP's

We have recently come up with a problem inour domain. We have some
systems, including printers, that we cannot ping any longer on our
network, but the results from the ping come back as an external
address. When I ping a printer at 192.168.134.30, it resolves to
205.178.145.245. Under the Forwarders tab, we point to our ISP's DNS
servers (AT&T - 206.141.192.60). The weird thing is that the
205.xxx.xxx.xxx IP address that comes back points to Network
Solutions, which hosts our website, and we have noticed this issue
since we moved our webhosting to Network Solutions.

Assuming you know that all Active Directory domain members must use ONLY the
internal DNS and you have them set up that way (No ISP or external DNS in AD
domain members in any position) I'm going to take a guess that your internal
domain is a subdomain name of your public domain name. e.g. Public name is
company.com AD domain is internal.company.com?

If you look at your ipconfig /all you will see that company.com is in your
DNS suffix search list. To resolve this you need to remove company.com from
your DNS suffix search list.

The reason this started when you moved to NetSol is because NetSol is one of
the hosting providers that by default adds a Wildcard record to your domain
zone. IIRC, if you look in the management interface for your public DNS zone
with NetSol there is a check box or radial button for "all other names"
clearing this will remove the Wildcard record.
