IIS using host headers
Goal is to have two web sites located on IIS using host headers have
mail route to Exchange 2003. We have a domain zzz.com and have a
public dns record pointing to the public ip address on our firewall.
This website works fine. We also have private dns for this website
because it is the same name as our domain. To get the second website
working with IIS and Exchange, do we need to create a primary private
zone for the second website? The dns is hosted with Internic so we
will eventually change the host record to our public ip. What is the
proper way to host multiple websites without public dns on the local
network?
I don't know what happened to the reply I made yesterday so, I'll repost
this.
You can't use a public DNS to resolve sites that have private IPs. You'll
need to create a zone or add a record for each additional name giving the
internal IP of the site.
What this means is for each site you host locally, you need a corresponding
zone in DNS.
