Re: DNS Errors - Please Advice

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

We are using DNS on two Windows 2003 servers in an AD environment.
This morning we started running into a problem with our primary box.
It seems when we do Nslookup it is defaulting to our secondary DNS
server. When we do an "Nslookup" we receive the following error:

C:\>nslookup
*** Can't find server name for address 159.178.96.15: Non-existent
domain Default Server: b10-its-dns2.umc.ufl.edu
Address: 159.178.120.58

Users are not complaining and this may be due to the fact our
secondary server is actually the one doing all the work. What could
be causing us to have the error "Non-existent domain" this morning
yet still work if we force it too?

This is nslookup doing a reverse lookup of the IP of the DNS server, hence
the Can't find server NAME for address 159.178.96.15, Create a PTR for this
IP and the message will stop. If you have not yet created a reverse lookup
zone, you'll need to do that first.
