Re: Moving DNS from one server to another

Hi,

I bought a New DC Windows 2003. I am going to take my old DC offline.
I have transfered all the FSMO roles.

I now want to transfer DNS.

I have installed DNS on the new server and it does show the zones etc
from my other DC. However, when I click on DNS it says "configure
DNS". I don't want to configure it as I don't want to lose my current
DNS.

You only need to run through the wizard one time, when you get to the part
to create a zone, select Configure root hints only, finish the wizard and
you won't see the prompt again.

How do I make sure that DNS has transfered?

If all your zones are store in Active Directory, the zones will replicate
though the normal AD replication cycle and are likely already fully
replicated.
If they have not fully replicated, do not create a new zone for one that
already exists in AD, if you do it can overwrite the existing zone in AD.

Incidentally, it is recommended to have at least two DCs in every domain,
you should consider keeping a second DC for redundancy.
