Ok. How can I configure only the DHCP server register the ip's on dns
and not the machines to register themselves except servers which have
static ip's ?
Clear the check boxes "register this connection's addresses in DNS" on all
clients.
In the DHCP server properties *** (DNS tab) check these boxes:
"Enable DNS updates..."
"Always dynamically update..."
"Discard A and PTR records..."
"Dynamically update... .DHCP clients that do not request update..."
Select the Advanced tab, click the Credentials button, enter the username
and password of a dedicated user account with a non-expiring password.
Manually delete all PTR records in the zone. (So the DHCP server can take
ownership)
Select server options, Advanced tab, select Microsoft options from the drop
down list, place a check by 002 Release DHCP lease on shutdown.(0x1)
You will still have some records left by clients that are not gracefully
shutdown and laptops that are disconnected without releasing the lease, but
when the lease expires, DHCP will remove the registration since it now owns
the record.
