my reverse dns zone contains a part of my IP address currently. Will

Reverse lookup zones are a horse of another color, reverse lookup zones for
Public IP addresses are delegated by the owner of the IP address, usually
the ISP. Unless the new ISP is going to delegate the reverse lookup to your
DNS it is of no use to have one. Reverse lookup zones just as forward lookup
zones cannot be renamed. Also, reverse zone have no direct relationship to
forward lookup zones except by coincidence. Forward zones don't rely on
reverse zones and vice-versa, one really has nothing to do with the other.
Some applications, such as nslookup and SMTP servers, are all that care
about reverse lookups. Other apps, like web and FTP servers don't need a
reverse lookup and probably shouldn't have one. As for as I'm concerned, it
is nobody's business if an IP address reverses to a website or an FTP site
or even at all. SMTP servers are different, most SMTP servers do a reverse
lookup on another SMTP server connecting to it to see if it is a valid SMTP
server or a mass mailing virus and use the info to decide if it will accept
mail from the server or not. You've got to have your ducks in a row if you
have an SMTP server and things had better match. (mail server EHLO/HELO
name, PTR record, and MX record and SPF record)
