Jeff Smith <JeffSmith@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> stated, which I commented
on below:
To sum up what might be a long winded explanation my problem is:
Currently we have 2 windows 2003 sp1 DCs. One DC holds all the FSMO
roles along with global catalogs and the other on is also a global
catalog server (ADC).
A third machine is a member server housing exchange. All machines are
as patched as windows update allows.
I found out to do some settings with DNS but that was not working
well for me. when I try to add member server to the domain it is not
connecting with my NETBIOS domainname, instead, when I providing the
domain name as domainname.com then it is prompting for user name and
password when i can able join the computer in the domain.
Moreover i have got one more problem.
When I try to start the Exchange System Manager administrative tool,
I am receiving an error message that is
The server is not operational.
Facility: Win32
ID No: 8007203a
Exchange System Manager
I am also experience difficulties if I try to open the Active
Directory Users and Computers ADUC. When I try to open the Active
Directory Users and Computers ADUC (Exchange), I am receiving an
error message that is
The naming information cannot be located because the server is not
operational.
Can anybody help in pulling me out of this problem
Thanks in advance, hopefully I didnt leave out too many details!
Thanks
Jeff Smith
In addition to what Herb posted, my FIRST guess (classic issue) is that
either you are not using your internal DNS servers in all ofyour machines'
IP properties, or you are mixing your internal DNS with an ISP's DNS, and/or
the AD domain is a single label name, and/or at least one of the DCs are
multihomed (multiple NICs).
If you can post an unedited ipconfig /all from your two DCs and from the
Exchange server, that will be a great start to diagnose this problem for
you.
