DNS Issues - After Upgrading to ADS

Hello All:
Prepping for an upgrade from 4.0 to 2003 and am running into some issues in
our lab environment. Here's a brief look at the setup and what has occurred.
NT 4.0 Domain - mydomain
1 PDC
1 BDC
Existing internal DNS servers. Both servicing internal clients with
forwarders set to go out to our ISP's name servers. We have 2 external name
servers in our DMZ but they don't play into this issue.
DNS1
DNS2
Upgrade -
Put up a new BDC (DC1) on good hardware, promoted it to PDC. Took old pdc
offline for failover. In my existing DNS environment, I created a zone,
mydomain.com and made the soon to be new DC (DC1) in the AD domain as
authoratative and created entiries as follows.
NS - (nameserver record) DC1.MYDOMAIN.COM
A - (host record) dc1 - 10.0.8.111
Ran 2003 upgrade on DC1 and it went fine. I can login, access resources etc.
Problem is this:
I cannot run DCPROMO on any other existing 2000 servers. I get an error
telling me that the MYDOMAIN.COM is not an active directory domain or the
DNS server cannot be contacted. It's pingable by name so it is not a network
issue and resolution is there. I have obviously done something wrong here.
Can anyone offer some help with this?
Thanks in advance
DJ
