Hi
1 - Do I have to use SBS's DHCP? Why?
You dont HAVE too however it is a far better idea to use DHCP on the SBS
rather than the router. This is because DHCP service on 2k3 is far more
configurable and is used to dynamically register clients in DNS as has been
mentioned. In my experience it just works better
Do I have to use SBS's DNS? Why?
For your internal domain members you HAVE to use a DNS server which can
handle the internal queries for resources . Your ISP DNS knows NOTHING about
your internal domain so if you use ISP's DNS you will get erratic behaviour.
To allow the SBS box to resolve external DNS requests you would configure a
forwarder and THEN use you ISP DNS servers to forward too. Alternatively root
hints can be used
Hope that helps
Any other questions............fire away!

Thanks for your response.
Here are some answers to your questions and more questions?
1 - Do I have to use SBS's DHCP? Why?
2 - The router is setup with ISP (external) DNS servers. There is also an A
and MX record on ISP DNS that points to the router's IP address as our mail
server.
3 - Do I have to use SBS's DNS? Why?
I just want to make sure I got it right.
[quoted text clipped - 45 lines]Hello,
I searched through the forum and nothing came up so I decided to post.
What are the pros and cons of letting the router or server do DHCP/DNS? Is
there any point in having one do the DNS and the other DHCP?
