Probably, IF you have more than one SUBNET.

Hi,
I¡¦m using Windows 2000 server with AD domain controller, and this
controller also had DNS and WINS service. And I¡¦m using Exchange 2000 on
another server.
Now I¡¦m going move my AD domain controller to another new computer, I
move FSMO, GC and DNS, and looks like fine. But my confuse is should I
move WINS, too?
If you needed WINS before you will still need it after.
I want to remove it, but I¡¦m afraid that Exchange 2000 can¡¦t work find.
So can you give me some suggestion?
There is something in Exchange that prefers NetBIOS but
you have other reasons for needing NetBIOS (browsing
is the BIG one for most people.)
Here are the real rules:
You need NetBIOS (on ALL machines) if you wish to
support EITHER legacy OS clients (WinNT/9x) OR
if you wish to support legacy applications (which include
a surprising number of features like browsing, external
trusts, some Exchange and Cluster features/issues.
Most people need NetBIOS (really.)
You need WINS Server IF you need NetBIOS AND you
have more than one SUBNET.
If you use WINS Server then EVERY machine must be
a "WINS Client" on the NIC->IP Properties->Advanced->
WINS tab.
