Windows 2000 SP4 DNS Active Directory Integrated.
Trying to alias the intranet site with our new IIS server. this worked
yesterday when the intranet was hosted on our older IIS server. now when
i
create a CNAME pointing to the new IIS server it does not get displayed.
i
can ping the alias name and i get replies from the IP of the new server!
but
in the browsers nothing comes up.
The ping success implies/indicates that the DNS is
working correctly.
This tends to implicate the IIS server as the source
of the problem.
IIS can host 'sites' based on IP address OR based on
HOST NAME (also port number but this isn't likely
relevant to your problem.)
You may need to direct the SITE on the IIS properties
to include the HOST NAME that matches the CNAME.
