You sound right on the money.
Maybe those two need to explain exactly what it is they think needs to be
done ;) .

Dear colleagues:
I'm stressing out over a matter which has me enormously puzzled. I have
been working at my new job for just 4 weeks. My supervisor wants me to
configure and establish an External DNS server for my company. We do not
have an existing external DNS server. I thought I was familiar with all
that had to be done. I simply build the server, configure it correctly
: ), create the NS record with my domain registrar, and then update my
WhoIs records with my domain name registrars. My supervisor and one other
co-worker, however, are insisting that I also need to do some kind of
registration with IANA? I've been doing networking for almost 10 years,
and I've never heard of this. What procedure could I possibly have to do
with IANA? Can someone please help re-enforce my understanding of
establishing external DNS?
Thank you.
