Just create an CNAME record with the alias left blank and point the
FQDN to your webserver ip.
You likely won't be able to create a CNAME (alias) without a host name, a
CNAME cannot exist on the same node with any other record.
You can create an A record without a host name. However, if mydomain.com is
an AD Domain, Domain Controllers register these records already and you
should not modify this behavior, the AD domain name must resolve only to IP
addresses on DCs that have file sharing enabled. This is for the
\\mydomain.com\sysvol and \\mydomain.com\netlogon DFS shares.
The workaround is to use IIS on the DCs to redirect http://mydomain.com to
http://www.mydomain.com
